It’s good that you survived all that.
Yes, when I was dead, 360 degree vision and the sense of belonging just like you said.
As to the brain?
It’s job is to run the ‘movie’ of our ‘life’ which happens without our necessary participation.
99% of our life is out of our control, and only the 1% is us ‘reacting/perceiving to the movie’.
The brain just does it’s thing, and ‘AWARENESS’ (‘us’) watches it.
Platonic Surrealism says we are already complete, and that completeness (that you sensed when you were dead) sends ‘streamers of awareness into worlds like this one, to experience life for it’s own purpose.
There you go.
It’s as simple as that.
Now many people cry about ‘their free will’, but really, they DO have ‘free will’ in their ‘real self’ (the Self that sends out the streamers).
All of life is a play you know, as Shakespeare said.
He was correct.
