This is a response to the chapter on religion in the book Fourth Wall Phantoms by Joshua Cutchin.
It’s not the last word on religion, but it describes an intuitively obvious mechanism that has been
missed for millennia somehow.

Rather than make you dig through 200 pages of articles on it that I’ve written about it, I wanted to share 2 things with you about ‘religion’ (‘spirituality’ or even Metaphysics or Philosophy too)

but it’s easiest to see with religion.

NEARLY ALL ‘systems’ of this nature have contradictory truth claims

that leads to cognitive dissonance.

It’s most powerfully noticed if you are PASSIONATE about holding the contradictory truth claims.
(Thus why it’s most noted with religion).

It’s rather like sexually frustrated teenagers or the abused & repressed sometimes causing
poltergeists.

This causes disassociation, which leads eventually to anomalous perceptions or experiences…

From what I’ve observed of the mechanism, the CONTENTS OF THE

RELIGION OR OTHER SYSTEM ARE LARGELY IRRELEVANT.

Also, for the really heavyweight people like Catholic Saints,

they self-mortified so much in so many ways, that they triggered

what I call ‘the kundalini death ejection system’ PARTIALLY.

People are so in pain that their ‘inner self’ is ‘halfway out the door

to the world of death’.

This is how the ‘holy’ became so holy.

In terms of the book of course, that ‘half in half out’ / Permanent liminal / disassociated state causes metalepsis – stuck between reference frames — it’s the raw power behind religion.
This effect is VERY powerful for people who are convinced that they are going to heaven but worry incessantly that they are going to hell; or whether they are or will become ‘enlightened’ and to escape the wheel of life and death or have to become reborn. It works for
almost any system that encourages powerfully held & suppressed
cognitive dissonance, which is nearly all of them.

It’s by far the most painful for dualistic systems, where you stick one concept in your superego and another in your shadow…

but as stated, even systems without a god or gods can do the same thing, even self or no self-systems… you just need to be powerfully passionate with cognitive dissonance, which then leads to
the anomalous perceptions and effects, which then feeds back
into a suffering & paranormal loop.

Generally once the buried suffering stops, the paranormal stops.

(your inner self stops being stretched simultaneously between two worlds).
