Doctor Gary Nolan is SUCH a respected scientist; an immunologist/biologist. He’s just brilliant.
He’s also hitched his wagon (is it red?) to this field.
He’s on my short list of people that I’d like to meet.
I spent the day with Jeff Kripal; i spent the day with Jacques Vallee. It would be pleasant to spend a day with Gary.
As to the video, he’s right of course.
‘The laws of physics are the world’s most successful ‘magic system’, that we (the Monads) have cooked up as cognitive pathways, to give a common, shared, pallet, for us to get to know each other.
This is not a ‘god did it’ sort of explanation; no, there really are many things that can be learned with science, and as it’s literally a form of ‘self-discovery’ it’s very worthwhile and relatively stable.
(There have been some observations and studies suggesting that certain physical constants might have varied over billions of years. Here are a few examples:
Speed of Light (c): There have been some theoretical models proposing that c might have changed over time. However, these ideas are still highly speculative and require experimental verification.
Fine-Structure Constant (α): In 1998, a team of scientists observed a slight variation in α, which describes the strength of electromagnetic interactions, over a period of about 10 billion years. However, later studies have yielded mixed results, and the jury is still out.
Gravitational Constant (G): Some studies have suggested that G might have varied over the universe’s lifetime. However, these findings are still highly debated and require further confirmation.)” – meta.ai
In any case, it’s interesting that Gary is becoming less abashed by promoting ‘woo’.
(come on in, the water is fine!)
The trick of course, is to be a ‘citizen of two worlds. Knowing ALL the stories, including the story of science.
One final note.
(used as example of the intersection of ‘science’ and ‘woo’ and the great difficulty in separating the two at the ‘upper end of research’.
I noticed a few years ago now that there is a vast ‘microtubule network’ baked into the ‘universe’.
I laughingly call it the mycelia network with my friends who also appreciate the ‘fungus among us’.
(this concept was the only thing about Star Trek ™ Discovery that I liked, as it’s a real thing.
Now, this is not a testable observation, most probably, I mean it’s below the plank distance, quite obviously.
This ‘stuff’ is seldom science, as WE are the ones playing all the games, and it’s a game to us, in general WE don’t give a flying fig about ‘revealing the laws of physics’. I mean, there is some desire to do that obviously, or there wouldn’t be scientific research going on.
But it’s like in Star Trek, if one were a ‘Q’, one may or may not know the laws of physics, and it may or may not matter. If you can snap your fingers or wave your arms, that’s good enough. Oh, the ‘internal consistencies’ are there, but it’s like having fun driving a car; you needn’t be an automotive engineer. Let the people who like doing that do that.
(Just like our humble little ‘universe’ here. One of our fellow Monads decided to give it a try, and unwound himself, releasing all that actualized potential, ‘blasting himself to kingdom come’. Just exactly why the first moment is the lowest entropy moment, there’s all that pre-existing complexity)
Anyway, it’s fascinating to see what crawls around in the ‘mycelia network’ baked into the deterministic layer below quantum mechanics.
It might not be possible to travel in ships, except at a very primitive level (you know, maybe 0.1 ‘C’) or on a self-replicating drone swarm, or a generation ship or something like that,
But the ‘beings’ that use the ‘mycelial network’ don’t need technology to transit, and technically
they either are, or have the potential to be ‘everywhere’ all at once. Every single bundle of apparent
‘space/time’ is an ‘exit aperture. (Now it sounds like I’m watching too much Star Trek ™ Voyager).
I have memories of this network.
Of course, the most common inference here is that the ‘cosmic web’ of nature, and these ‘tubes’
sound quite a lot like ‘microtubules’ in our brains.
Funny thing that.
Anyway.
Food for thoughts.
